Remove other sites from the Google search results

Google has a new option for webmasters – that enables us to remove a particular information on a website from it’s search results. Vanessa Fox today released the Webpage removal toolthat will enable users to delete off indexed pages from your site on Google‘s index and also information/pages on other sites.

The latter part is interesting – removing information on other sites. At first look it may sound to you that anyone who wishes to remove any information from another site can use this tool. But a closer look at the tool will reveal that the information that you wish to remove from other site should be related/affecting to you. Also, the type of information that you wish to delete should be related to your personal information like -

  • Your social security or government ID number
  • Your bank account or credit card number
  • An image of your signature
  • Explicit content which violates Google’s guidelines and contains your personal information.

So anyone who does not like your site/blog cannot just go ahead and request your site to be deleted. Ha, that’s a catch there!

But it’s to wait and watch if anyone manages to get that done(deleting someone elses pages) fooling google. Doesn’t look possible but hey – it would be interesting to read.
