“We don’t believe in censorship of any kind. All over the world, every company has to operate in accordance with the law. Any company wishing to operate in a country has to follow the laws of the land,” said Mr Chandra Shekhar. He said that their is a need to develop some mechanism to abide by the law.

Last week the government had given the go ahead for the prosecution of the executives of the top internet firms including Facebook, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, for alleged offense of promoting enmity between classes and causing prejudice to national integration. The matter is still going on in the courts.

Advocate N.K. Kaul, appearing for Google India, had argued that “the issue relates to a constitutional issue of freedom of speech and expression and suppressing it was not possible as the right to freedom of speech in democratic India separates us from a totalitarian regime like China”.

However, the Delhi High Court judge Suresh Kait, hearing the case, had warned Google India and Facebook India that websites can be “blocked” like in China if they fail to devise a mechanism to check and remove objectionable material from their web pages.

“Facebook Timeline is quite silly actually. Many users dumped Myspace, Orkut and joined Facebook because it was uncomplicated.

Its simplicity made it an instant hit with netizens. “But the recent changes, like the Timeline, have got things all mixed up. I want them in order, the way they used to be. Also for anyone who is using it, it has become impossible to read/view their profile because it always gets stuck in an infinite loop of refreshing,” complains Rashi Bhardwaj, a media professional.

But marketting executive with a luxury brand Aashima Malik says it’s a good interface.

“It gives the option to add my personal life events and control what I want people to see and what not in a simple way. It gives my profile a personalized view and keeps a track of my life. It’s a good feature on Facebook after a long time,” she says.

“ICICI Bank will soon be present on the Facebook. The ICICI Bank page will include a ‘Your bank account’ app through which you can access your bank account information while on Facebook,” the bank’s executive director, Mr. Rajiv Sabharwal said.

In a new-year message to the bank’s customers, Mr Sabharwal said that the customers would also be able to get updates on the exclusive offers through Facebook.

The bank is planning to join Facebook as part of its efforts to continue to provide “superior banking services” in 2012, in line with its ‘Khayaal Aapka’ (Your Care) philosophy, he said.

A number of companies in India are joining social media platforms to reach out to customers.

Simon Foxley from Hyde, Gloucestershire, became interested in the girl after meeting her on the website. But when he told her of his romantic feelings, she “unfriended” him from her list, said the Daily Mail.

Foxley tried to contact the girl but her friends reportedly bombarded him with abusive messages and told him to leave her alone.

After reading a message that read “Go and die”, Foxley hanged himself in the garden of his home, the daily said.

His body was found by his 56-year-old father and his 18-year-old brother.

His family said that being “unfriended” and bullied on Facebook affected him terribly.

Before killing himself, Foxley wrote a suicide note that said: “Thank you for everything that you have done for me. I hope you all make the most of your lives and cherish the people and the moments you share with them. I can’t say sorry enough times for it to be the slightest bit good.”

Multisite is a really cool feature which was introduced by WordPress before few versions of theirs. Nowadays, most of them started writing plugins for Multisite WordPress too.

Today, i had a small challenge with linkwithin widget. I mean, linkwithin widget should appear only on the 1 theme in a multisite network but not in other themes.  To implement this, just read a linkwithin FAQ. From that, I noticed customizing the placement of the widget on WordPress blog by the below code,
